Spotify launches $12.99-per-month bundle with Hulu in the US

Customers who are already Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to add the Hulu service for a three month trial period for an extra $0.99 per month before deciding if they want to make a full switch to the $12.99 plan. But video will soon be critical for Spotify, given Apple's forthcoming plans for a TV subscription service that's filled with high-quality original video.

Hulu and Spotify have partnered together to create a premium streaming bundle, one that lets you take the best of TV and Music wherever you go.

Do you think Spotify's free service is in need of a tune-up? Spotify Premium, Now With Hulu only works with the Hulu Limited Commercials Plan; subscribers can not upgrade or purchase Hulu service add-ons as part of the bundle. At the time, they hinted that a broader bundle would soon follow.

Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) is planning a new version of its free streaming music service in a first move since its public listing, Bloomberg reports.

The new plan saves subscribers $4.99 a month: Hulu's "Limited Commercials" plan is $7.99 per month, and Spotify Premium is $9.99 per month.

The new offer is available initially to existing Spotify Premium subscribers only.

Apparently, listeners who prefer free music stream services are very important for Spotify, which is why the company has chose to improve the free version of its music service, Bloomberg reports.

However, if you're looking to be both a Spotify Premium AND PlayStation Plus subscriber through a PS4 console, you can get a chunk of change off that monthly cost.

And the company expects to reach 200 million users by the end of the year. The duo previously teamed up on a bundled plan just for students, but the new offering will eventually be available to a wider swath of consumers.

"Our student launch with Hulu was incredibly well received and we are excited to extend our reach by bringing Hulu to more of our Premium members in the U.S.", added Alex Norstrom, Chief Premium Business Officer at Spotify.
