Now it seems Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on AMC's The Walking Dead, may be leaving the series.

While there's no specific information on how Lincoln's character will be written off the series, it is expected to be revealed before the season 9 finale. But for now the only thing that is certain is that beloved Rick Grimes' story is coming to an end after season 9 of The Walking Dead.

Nearly unbelievable on a show where nearly no one is said to be safe, the man who has played Rick Grimes since the very beginning of the series based on Robert Kirkman's comics could be gone by the end of the upcoming ninth season, I hear. After Lincoln goes, Reedus and Melissa McBride will be the only actors from Season 1 remaining. Grimes is also alive in the comic books.

Season 9 will premiere on AMC this fall. Although she did ultimately sign on for the next season, Cohan will only appear in six episodes, as she will also be filming the ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier.

With two long-running actors potentially leaving the series for good, The Walking Dead is put into a position to go in all-new directions that the comic book has yet to explore.

According to Collider, "The Walking Dead" will replace Lincoln/Grimes by moving Norman Reedus' popular character Daryl Dixon into the main role. Contracts for both Black Panther star Danai Gurira, who plays the character Michonne, and Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee, end soon as well. Though not a character in the comics, well compensated fan favorite Reedus will definitely continue on TWD fighting the good fight, a source tells me.
