Cobain's Martin had been heavily modified over the years, Nirvana tech Earnie Bailey told Total Guitar.

Frances Bean Cobain has lost her late father Kurt Cobain's iconic acoustic guitar famously played during Nirvana's "Unplugged" set in what has become a messy divorce from ex-husband Isaiah Silva. The treasured heirloom had been passed through the hands of various family members, and has been loosely appraised as being worth several million dollars.

On April 21, 2016, Love filed a declaration accusing Lee of trying to exploit Cobain's death and claiming Lee has "stalked and harassed me, my family, and my friends for many, many years ..." TheBlast.com, citing court documents, said the marriage was dissolved on November 30, 2017, but that final judgment on the property issue was awaiting conclusion of settlement.

She reportedly gave the 1959 Martin D-18E to Silva as a wedding present, however, Frances denied that she ever did this.

Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain have won a court case that seals the photos of Kurt Cobain's death. However, Frances was unsuccessful and Silva is now the legal owner of the guitar.

Aside from its monetary value, the guitar is said to be only one of 300 made at the time.

Throughout the former couple's divorce proceedings, the rightful owner of the guitar had always been a point of dispute and discord.

She said: "I don't have an answer for that because I don't want to speak on someone else's behalf".

Separating from her husband Isaiah Silva after two years of marriage, the divorce proceedings were settled on Monday and left Frances bereft of something precious to her.

Frances isn't walking away from the divorce empty-handed, however.

Frances, for her part, gets to keep the house she and Silva bought together and will not have to pay Silva spousal support.
