Former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been charged in NY with rape and several counts of sexual abuse stemming from two separate accusers.

During the arraignment, prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon described Weinstein as using his "position, money and power to lure young women into situations where he was able to violate them sexually". I have a visceral need for him to have handcuffs on. His attorney told reporters outside court that Weinstein meant to plead not guilty to all four charges announced Friday.

On Megyn Kelly Today, when asked what she would like to say to Weinstein if he might be listening, McGowan said, "We got you".

Harvey Weinstein accuser Asia Argento is among those celebrating the disgraced Hollywood producer's arrest in New York City this morning on sexual assault charges. He sought treatment for sex addiction at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, the New York Times reported.

Allegations against Weinstein were presented to D.A. Vance's office previously in 2015, when model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez told police that the producer had allegedly groped her.

His British fashion designer wife is divorcing him, his homes are being sold and he must now suffer the indignity of surrendering his passport and being fitted with a GBC monitor out on a $1 million cash bail.

Time's Up, an organization born out of the Weinstein scandal that is dedicated to fighting inequality and injustice in the workplace, also posted a lengthy note online.

In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance said, "Today's charges reflect significant progress in this active, ongoing investigation", said District Attorney Vance. "The NYPD thanks these fearless survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice". "And I'll get to be an eye and so many other victims will get to look him square in the eye and just by being there, represent the fact that we did not want this".

In response, Rose McGowan, one of the many women to have accused Weinstein of rape, said in a statement on her Instagram, "I, and so many of Harvey Weinstein's survivors, had given up hope that our rapist would be held accountable by law". After having his mugshot and fingerprints taken, he was led out in handcuffs and taken to court.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Brafman signaled he would defend Weinstein by undermining the credibility of his client's accusers.

It marked the first criminal case against Weinstein, coming seven months after the allegations destroyed his career and set off a national reckoning over sexual misconduct known as the #MeToo movement.

The NYPD and the Manhattan district attorney obviously believe they have a case.

But on Friday, Harvey Weinstein was arrested and charged with rape, the most famous pariah of the #MeToo cause.

As he exited the courtroom, however, he seemed to spring to life, even backslapping a man in the gallery who stood up to talk to him, saying "hey" to the person as they walked out together.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office said he was charged with rape in the first and third degrees, stemming from an attack on a woman in 2013, and a criminal sex act against another woman in 2004.
