Nigeria Senate increases 2018 budget estimate

Vanguard reports that the report of the committee on appropriations was laid by the chairman, Senator Danjuma Goje representing Gombe central.

Recall that the Senate spokesman, Aliyu Sabi, had last week said the budget report would be laid Tuesday, while it would be considered and debated on Wednesday and passed on Thursday.

NAIJ.com gathered that the presentation of the report was seconded by the chairman, Senate committee on public accounts, Senator Matthew Urhoghide representing Edo south.

Since then, the National Assembly had made promises in passing the budget but failed to meet up such deadlines.

As Nigerians await the passage and signing of the 2018 budget, The Minister of State, Budget & National Planning Mrs Zainab Ahmed recently gave a brief insight on the issues around the budget.

President Muhammadu Buhari, had at the joint session of the National Assembly, presented a proposed budget of eight trillion, six hundred and twelve billion naira (N8.612tr) to the lawmakers.

Also, capital expenditure was up from N2.42 trillion to N2.86 trillion, while debt service was also increased to N2.20 trillion from N2.01 trillion.

Passage of the bill was however delayed as the lawmakers accused heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of refusing to submit details of budget proposal and failing to make appearances before relevant committees.
