"Our company has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.and our reputation has been damaged", the memo said.

The chief lobbyist for AT&T is leaving the company after overseeing a $50,000-per-month contract for President Donald Trump's attorney Michael Cohen to serve as a political consultant.

Internal AT&T documents, obtained by the Post on Thursday, outlined how Cohen was expected to provide guidance on matters facing the company at the Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department, specifically mentioning AT&T's $85 billion Time Warner merger.

Rudy Giuliani lashed out at Stormy Daniels and her attorney Friday afternoon, suggesting the adult film actress with whom President Donald Trump allegedly had an affair is a prostitute.

Government ethics lawyer Kathleen Clark said Cohen had an obligation under NY state law to inform Trump of the consulting work if it potentially conflicted with Cohen's work as a personal lawyer to the president. Quinn declined to comment.

The payment to Clifford was the first known activity involving Essential Consultants, a shell company incorporated in DE by Cohen.

"We made a mistake in entering into this engagement and, as a outcome, are being criticized by a world that expects more from us", Novartis CEO Vasant Narasimhan said in a memo to employees. "Novartis paid Mr. Cohen hundreds of thousands dollars more than it paid its big-shot lobbyists in Washington".

"Reports about Michael Cohen's dealings with Novartis look more like a corporate shakedown than an honest business arrangement", Wyden said. The consulting fee went through a shell company Cohen also used to pay hush money to Daniels over her alleged affair with Trump.

Time Warner, with which AT&T; wants to merge, owns CNN.

AT&T said earlier this week that it hired Cohen, in part, to gain "insights" about the Trump administration's thinking about the deal.

Cohen's work for AT&T did not appear to meet that definition, Noble said.

"There is a whole lot of influence peddling that Michael Cohen could do without falling into the scope of federal lobby legislation", said Ryan, vice president of policy and litigation at the good government group. AT&T said it had "cooperated fully" with the inquiries. They say that they cooperated with Mueller's team and consider the matter closed.

Wyden, a Democrat from OR, noted in a letter to Narasimhan that at the time Novartis was paying Cohen, it was seeking approval and negotiating a payment deal with the USA government for a cancer drug called Kymriah that has a list price of $475,000.

"I think that this further proves that the President is not going to be influenced by special interests", Sanders said. Trump has been vocal in his disdain for CNN's coverage of his administration.

"We believe, and our investigation has found, the merger would harm competition, resulting in higher bills and less innovation for millions of American consumers", a Department of Justice official told reporters at the time.
