As it was previously reported, his fellow chef and close friend, Eric Ripert, found him dead the next morning when he didn't show up for breakfast.

Bourdain, a longtime staff editor at The New York Times, told the paper, "He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this".

'He'd put everything into the shoots and then go back to his room to isolate'. Inside, the 61-year-old TV host had used the belt of his hotel bathrobe to hang himself in his bathroom.

Chef Sabyasachi Gorai of Lavaash says his first memory of Bourdain was on the cover of a book where he's standing buck naked with just the shin bone of beef/ beef shank.

Glaydis Bourdain, his 83-year-old mother, was informed by Ripert that "Tony had been in a dark mood these past couple of days", according to the Times. This was also just days after Bourdain bought a moody painting with the ominous title "The world is falling down, I am learning to live with it".

"When they were shooting their segment, there was a table with two Americans", he continued.

Anthony Bourdain was my best friend.

The famed cook, writer and host of the CNN series "Parts Unknown" killed himself Friday in a luxury hotel in the ancient village of Kaysersberg, Christian de Rocquigny, the prosecutor of Colmar in France's eastern Alsace region, told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

It was where Bourdain had been told he could find a nice choucrote - sauerkraut, an Alsatian specialty.

"The show actually had nothing to do with us being arrested, and if anything I think our appearance there - with really one of the most beloved television personalities, and people, of our generation - raised awareness in a different kind of way that nothing else could have", he said. "He was brilliant and sharp and amusing", she said.

In a piece published for CNN, Bourdain wrote about his memorable dinner and interview with the (then) President, saying "I can tell you that Barack Obama was, in spite of having had a high-ranking leader of the Taliban whacked in Pakistan a few days previous, very relaxed and at ease". Champion Lucal Lepri, who trained Bourdain at his home in the Hamptons, recalled how his student surprised him one day with a home-cooked meal inspired by Lepri's native Brazil.

"There are many chefs", he said, "that never recognize the hard work of the Hispanics". I feel like I've stolen a vehicle - a really nice auto - and I keep looking in the rear-view mirror for flashing lights.

"The Latino community was very important to him because in the kitchens of NY there are many Latinos", Medina said.

Before he got into television, he worked as a chef at the NY restaurant. "That's all I'm going to say", Froelich wrote.
