Blakely: A ready-made rival to Warriors awaits LeBron in Boston

Despite claiming the Eastern Conference crown for a fourth straight year, James was given a blunt reminder of how far short the Cavs are as they failed to win a game against a team who have won three of the last four National Basketball Association titles.

Still tired and wrestling with emotions after losing Game 3 on Wednesday night, when Kevin Durant scored 43 points and shot the Warriors within one win of their third title in four years, James pointed out Thursday what has become terrifyingly obvious: The Warriors are at another level and may be for a while. Kevin Durant had a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, and was named the MVP of the Finals.

James can opt out of his contract this offseason, and talk of him looking to leave his hometown team for the second time will not die down after the Cavs were swept despite him averaging 34 points, 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds in the Finals.

The 6-foot-11 small forward captured the award for the second consecutive year as the Warriors won their third championship in four years. Steph Curry led them in Game 4 with 37 points. They've gone back-to-back, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-85 on Friday night to finish off a sweep of these NBA Finals in the fourth consecutive meeting between those clubs. Recalling how the Warriors blew a 3-1 Finals lead to James and the Cavs in 2016, Kerr said, "We lost in Game 7 to Cleveland, and that was devastating".

The Cavs had successfully faced down elimination three times this season but were unable to mount any threat of a rally in this one as the Warriors simply possessed too much firepower.

"Then it will ultimately come down to me, and so we'll see what happens". And it's no secret that Golden State is the superior team with more overall talent and depth.

LeBron James was relaxed, reflective and even resigned to his fate.

"We have an opportunity to extend the series, but we've got to come out and play 48 minutes", James said. Instead, they'll be trying to make the parade more interactive.

LeBron will become a free agent in July but it seems like fan should have a pretty good idea of what he will do before that date.

"All of us together are just unselfish", said Warriors centre JaVale McGee. James was subbed out for Cedi Osman with 4:03 remaining, shook hands with a few of the Warriors players on his way to the bench, and walked off the court shortly after time expired. "He's on the previous year of a deal, so they don't want to take on money".

Resignation is not on Lue's mind, however, and asked in the post-game media conference if he intends to keep coaching, the 41-year-old said: "Yeah, I do. The biggest thing we appreciate in the locker room is what everybody brings to the table, and we kind of unlock the greatness out of each other".
