U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un smiled for cameras after 41-minutes of one-on-one talks, just months after they traded insults and tensions spiraled in the region over the latter's nuclear programs.

Trump himself seemed optimistic as well. And, just previous year, North Korea was named by the USA government as the culprit behind the massive "WannaCry" ransomeware attack, which infected hundreds of thousands of computers around the globe and severely disrupted the United Kingdom's health care sector.

"I feel really great", Trump said.

But Trump has lashed out at reporters for suggesting that the meeting with Kim will result in him giving up any negotiating leverage.

The dollar jumped to a 3-week top on Tuesday while Asian stocks edged up as a highly anticipated US-Korea summit got underway in Singapore, potentially paving the way to ending a nuclear stand-off on the Korean peninsula.

Citing two United States officials familiar with the planning, Bloomberg said Trump had been willing to stay longer if negotiations were progressing, but since Kim set definite plans for departure, so did Trump.

Some hope for an end to Cold War confrontation and that the North will eventually give up its nuclear weapons, others are sceptical about Pyongyang's intentions - and some say they have too many economic problems of their own to pay much attention.

Just hours before what could be the most important meeting of his life, a seemingly relaxed and confident Kim Jong Un took a night on the town in Singapore, taking selfies and being greeted by cheering onlookers. He said the summit will lay the ground work for the "hard work" ahead.

Delegates were outlining specific goals for what Trump and Kim should try to accomplish and multiple scenarios for how key issues can be resolved, an official briefed on the discussions said.

Trump and Kim landed in a city teeming with media and onlookers of all stripes, from foreign policy analysts like Kelly and Enos to former basketball star Dennis Rodman, who claims to be a friend of the two leaders.

"How awesome it would be if we are reunited like Germany!"

"The entire world is focusing on the historic summit between the DPRK and the USA, and thanks to your honest efforts. we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit", Mr Kim told Mr Lee through an interpreter.

Trump also called the leaders of South Korea and Japan in advance of the summit, Pompeo said.

"It's unknown territory, in the truest sense", Trump said during the G-7. She dismisses Kim's late-night activities in Singapore as part of a months-long "charm offensive" aimed at cultivating good worldwide press. And he won't have that opportunity again.
