South Korea's Hankook Ilbo reported that Singapore recommended the St. Regis, which hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping during his 2015 summit with Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou, because it can be easily secured.

On Sunday, Kim Jong-un arrived in Singapore where he is expected to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump on June 12.
"No matter what happens, President Trump and Kim Jong Un are going to call it a success because both leaders are invested in this and they want to", Sue Mi Terry, Korea chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said at a press briefing.
However, he played down the possibility of a quick breakthrough and said the summit should set the framework for "the hard work that will follow", insisting that North Korea had to move toward complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.

He thanked Singapore's organisation of the summit as if it was "their own family affair".
Kim met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee at his Istana residence after his arrival, in talks which North Korea's KCNA news agency said proceeded "in an amicable and friendly atmosphere".
"Prime Minister Lee complimented the bold and admirable decision by Chairman Kim and President of the United States Donald Trump to come together for this Summit".

Experts believe the North is close to being able to target the entire US mainland with its nuclear-armed missiles, and while there's deep skepticism that Kim will quickly give up those hard-won nukes, there's also some hope that diplomacy can replace the animosity between the USA and the North.
During that same impromptu news conference at the G7, Trump said he felt optimistic about his meeting with Kim, which will be the first between a sitting United States president and North Korean leader.
The summit will be the first meeting between Trump and Kim and mark a turnaround of relations between the two leaders after a long-running exchange of furious threats and insults.
