Paulinho played 34 games and scored nine goals as Barcelona won La Liga last term, and started all five of Brazil's World Cup games in Russian Federation.
The transfer has been confirmed on the CSL club's official website, but only on the Chinese version and not the English-language portal.
The player spent nearly three years with the Chinese Super League club in his first spell, playing nearly 100 games with the giants and lifting back-to-back CSL titles.More news: HIV-1 vaccine human trial shows promise
The club might call off the Lenglet signing and go for an European midfielder to replace Paulinho, who had added a lot of muscle to the midfield. "I also hope to give The Super League more excitement!" Guangzhou's hopes of winning an eighth consecutive title will be boosted by Paulinho's return, with Fabio Cannavaro's side sitting fifth in the table after 11 games, five points off top spot.
