'Hot water challenge' reportedly leaves teen seriously hurt

In Florida, a variation of the challenge tragically killed an 8-year-old girl last summer after she attempted to drink boiling hot water through a straw.

A fifteen-year-old in Indianapolis, Indiana, suffered painful injuries after his alleged friend poured scalding hot water on him while he slept as a part of the "hot water challenge". Kyland Clark said his friends meant to play a simple prank on him, inspired by the "Hot Water Challenge".

When Kyland fell asleep, he says his friend heated up some water and poured it on him. "Then, I went and looked in a mirror, and I had skin falling off...my face", he said. Last summer, an 11-year-old girl in NY suffered burns to her face and chest after her friends had poured hot water on her. Doctors with IU Health said they're starting to see more of these so-called internet challenges land people in the emergency room. He had to stay in the hospital for a week while undergoing treatment. The 12-year-old who reportedly dumped the water on her was charged with felony assault.

Last summer, an 11-year-old girl in NY suffered face and chest burns after friends poured hot water on her.

"To see my baby, all burned up like that, it was heart breaking", his mother Andrea said.

"There's a limit to what you should do in a challenge and what you shouldn't", the teen said.

"It's suggesting to people that they can try it and they won't be hurt, but they will be". A 10-year-old boy in North Carolina was taken to the hospital second and third degree burns after trying the Hot Water Challenge with his step-brother just days earlier. Don't take it overboard, ' Kyland told WLTW.

Clark described to WKRG how he received the serious injuries shortly after he and a friend looked up the "Hot Water Challenge" on YouTube.

Kyland is recovering from his injuries. Kyland's doctors say he should heal and his pigment should be back to normal in a few months.
