It's current projected track shows it moving south of the territory, but likely to bring rain and gusts of wind late Monday or Tuesday.

The National Hurricane Center's long-range forecast has Tropical Depression Three becoming a hurricane - which would be the third of 2018 - by mid-week as it moves away from the U.S. "On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will approach the Lesser Antilles over the weekend and cross the island chain late Sunday or Monday".

Hurricane Beryl is churning in the Atlantic on Saturday morning and taking aim at the small islands that make up the eastern Caribbean.

In its 5 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center said Beryl was located about 830 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles and moving west-northwest at 14 mph. Beryl should continue to strengthen over the next 24-36 hours with maximum sustained winds increasing to 100 to 110 mph.

"Interests along the North Carolina and SC coasts should monitor the progress of this system during the next several days", the hurricane center says. "They should not let their guard down", he said.

"We have monitored this developing weather system over the last several days and have had regular discussions about any effect of the storm on WAPA", Kupfer said in a Friday news release. Puerto Rico is within the cone of uncertainty.

Among those stocking up was Sandra Whitcher, an owner of Coffeeriver Cottages in Dominica. "We don't see many hurricanes that small". Now forecasters are dialing back earlier projections indicating the storm could regain strength, saying now further weakening its expected early next week.
