Refugees living in apartments near the corner of State Street and Wylie Lane in Boise were reported to be among the nine stabbing victims Saturday, June 30, 2018. "This was an attack against those who are most vulnerable".

The attack came a few hours after and 3 miles from a "Families Belong Together" immigration rally at the State Capitol that drew thousands of protesters.

The picture was of Ruya, the 3-year-old girl whose birthday party was attacked.

The toddler died in a Utah hospital, where she was flown for treatment.

A candlelight vigil was planned for Monday evening, and several organizations and individuals were launching fundraising campaigns to help cover the victims' expenses. A speaker asked for a moment of prayer.

Victim witness coordinators and counsellors were being made available to the victims, their families and friends and other residents of the flat complex, Bones said.

Among the victims were members of Boise's refugee community, police said. He is now on misdemeanor probation in Utah according to court records there. Kinner assaulted the children at the party after he was unable to find the woman, police said, adding his motive was still under investigation.

Police say one child injured in a stabbing attack at a Boise apartment complex has been released from the hospital.

Authorities believe the suspect returned to the apartment complex where he had been staying seeking revenge after he was kicked out on Friday.

"It is heartbreaking that adults and children who fled the horror of war and conflict to find safety in America had to experience violence all over again", Hans Van de Weerd, vice president of USA programs, said in a statement.

Early Sunday morning there were still dozens of police cars and officers at the apartment complex, with yellow evidence markers placed around the parking lot.

Timmy Earl Kinner was arraigned at the Ada County Courthouse on Monday afternoon. He is being held without bond.

Arriving officers from numerous local and regional agencies found a "chaotic and tragic area in which nine members of our community had been stabbed and lay injured", Bones said. "We saw a killer and we didn't want to get stabbed". A court appearance for Kinner is scheduled for today.

It wasn't immediately clear if Kinner has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.

The apartment complex, minutes away from downtown, provides HUD-certified, low-income housing in one-, two- and three-bedroom units. "Our community is reeling from this attack".

Timmy Kinner, a Los Angeles resident, has been charged. Kinner is an American, but the apartment complex houses many refugee families from Syria, Iraq, Ethiopia and Somalia.

The unidentified girl was one of six children injured in the attack.
