US President Donald Trump on Thursday (Jul 5) announced the departure of his environment chief, Scott Pruitt, who faced ever-growing ethics scandals over his spending and conduct in office. He made swamp creatures blush with his shameless excesses.
"We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment, somebody who believes in climate change and takes it seriously for the benefit of all of us, including our children", Mink tells Pruitt in the video. The Government Accountability Office found that he violated spending laws by installing a $43,000 soundproof phone booth in his office - one of the more than half-dozen federal inquiries launched into his management and expenditures.More news: Hormuz Strait either for all, or for none: Iranian commander
A different EPA inspector general review involves Pruitt's travel practices, suggesting that it will review Pruitt's use of his round-the-clock security detail, which travels with him even when off-duty on family vacations. Emails obtained by the Sierra Club environmental group showed Mr Pruitt had an aide contact the chief executive of a fast-food chain about his wife becoming a franchise owner.
Wheeler also worked as an energy sector lobbyist, perhaps most notably for Murray Energy Company, one of the nation's largest coal mining companies, according to The Washington Post.
Mr Pruitt, a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, also was known for questioning the human role in global climate change. That stance, which pleased many Republicans, is the reason he managed to cling on to his job for over a year despite the scandals, said Phil Wegmann, writer at the Washington Examiner. Environmental groups expressed dismay when he joined the federal agency, and Pruitt has since sought to roll back various environmental regulations, including Obama-era vehicle emission standards.More news: Ant-Man And The Wasp's TWO Post-Credits Scenes Explained
Ding dong, Scott Pruitt has resigned. "But Mr. Pruitt's brazen abuse of his position for his own personal gain has been absolutely astounding, rivaled only by the silence of far too many in Congress and in the White House who allowed Mr. Pruitt's unethical, and at times, possibly illegal behavior to go unchecked", the DE senator said in a lengthy statement.
Reports surfaced in early May alleging a lobbyist friend of the embattled administrator helped plan a trip to Morrocco that cost taxpayers over $100,000.
Pruitt came under fire in recent months after revelations that he rented a Washington, D.C., condo for just $50 a night from the wife of a lobbyist with ties to the industry Pruitt is tasked with regulating.More news: China vows to retaliate against U.S. tariffs in trade dispute escalation
However, EPA spokesman Lincoln Ferguson said Pruitt thanked the woman for her comments.
