Zsa Zsa dies weeks after being dubbed 'World's Ugliest Dog'

According to CNN, Zsa Zsa, the victor of the 30th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest has died just weeks after receiving her title.

The pup - whose name was inspired by Zsa Zsa Gabor - earned the honor in large part to her unique long tongue, overbite and broad body.

"I'm still in shock", she said.

The dog mom said she named Zsa Zsa after the Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, as the pup enjoyed lounging on the couch "like a lovely model".

On June 23, Zsa Zsa slobbered her way to the winner's circle at the annual World's Ugliest Dog contest in Petaluma, California.

Zsa Zsa's 15 minutes of fame was extended when Brainard brought her on the Today show in June to celebrate her victory.

Brainard and her family are not alone in mourning Zsa Zsa, as the sad news of her passing swept the internet late Tuesday. Zsa Zsa family said she died in her sleep in Minnesota.

For all the heartbreak, the Brainards have the comfort of knowing they gave Zsa Zsa a happy life and seeing her become a canine superstar. She beat a terrier with dreadlocks named Scamp to take home the win. Zsa Zsa defeated 13 other dogs to clinch the title. "We were all saying our goodbyes". It was sweet. She was waving at her, ' Megan said.

She took home first prize - a trophy, $1,500 ($AU2020) in prize winnings and the hearts of everyone.

Though it may seem a dubious honor, the Ugliest Dog contest seeks to demonstrate "the importance of advocating for the adoration of all animals", according to its website.
