Local witnesses confirmed that the Israeli artillery fired two shells targeting a Hamas military post in northern Gaza killing two Palestinians.

"Our Resistance will never accept that Israel hits our positions and our men with impunity", said Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas leader.

The statement added that an Israeli army-affiliated tank then "targeted the post from which the shots were fired".

There have been reports about talks between Palestinian factions, Egypt, the United Nations and Israel to reach a long-term truce in the besieged enclave.

MADA said that the Israeli occupation carried out 208 violations in the occupied West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem.

"The resistance can not allow the occupation to impose a policy of bombing sites and targeting fighters without paying the price", a Hamas statement said.

Two months after its construction began, earlier this week, Israel's Ministry of Defense released first footage of the sea barrier it is building along the country's border with Gaza. Israel has said they only opened fire in self-defence or on people trying to infiltrate its territory.

Israel's security cabinet discussed the proposal on Sunday, but afterwards ministers said only that the Israeli military was "prepared for any scenario".

One Israeli soldier has been shot dead by a Palestinian sniper. Three Palestinians were reportedly killed and dozens injured, mostly by Israeli ammunition during the protests.
