China frustrates United States efforts to end Iran's oil exports

They said they remained committed to the 2015 accord and to building up economic relations with Iran, including "the continuation of Iran's export of oil and gas" and other energy products.

Among the top importers of Iranian oil are China, India, Turkey and South Korea.

"On Aug. 7, Washington will reimpose sanctions on Iran's purchase of U.S. dollars, its trade in gold and precious metals and its dealings with metals, coal and industrial-related software".

Global sanctions were lifted under the pact between world powers and Tehran in return for curbs on Iran's nuclear program.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has warned the USA against any attempt to stop Tehran's oil trade, threatening to block the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has been furious over U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of an worldwide agreement on Iran's nuclear programme and re-impose sanctions on Tehran.

Unfazed, the administration has warned that even allies would face sanctions if they didn't show “significant” progress in reducing Iranian oil purchases by November 4, ruling out broad exemptions or waivers.

In Washington, the US State Department said on its Persian-language Twitter account: "While it is ultimately up to the #people_of_Iran to determine their country's path, #America supports the voice of the Iranian people, which has been ignored for a long time".

"At 9pm [15:30 GMT on Friday] they attacked the school and tried to break the doors down and burn things", the Fars News Agency quoted the head of the school in the town of Ishtehad, Hojatoleslam Hindiani, as saying.

Washington has told countries they must halt all imports of Iranian oil from 4 November or face USA financial measures.

Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kuwait and the UAE have increased production to help to compensate for an anticipated shortfall in Iranian crude supplies once planned USA sanctions take effect later this year.

"The unilateral sanctions should be abandoned because they are counterproductive", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters.

The official confirmed that during July delegations would be dispatched to Beijing and Delhi to press home the case, having already visited the capitals of other major Iranian oil importers.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported Sunday that the five ATR 72-600 airplanes, which are twin-engine turboprops, had arrived at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport.

In April-July, the first four months of this fiscal year, India's oil imports from Iran has risen by an annual 40 percent to about 677,500 bpd, the data showed.
