Fans celebrate the birthdays of JK Rowling and Harry Potter

In J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, the celebration - or lack thereof - of Harry's birthday often serves as the inciting incident. It had originally been conceptualized by a almost destitute Rowling on a train and produced on a manual typewriter.
