LSU Basketball Player Wayde Sims Was Shot And Killed On Friday Morning

LSU junior basketball player Wayde Sims was shot to death early Friday morning in Baton Rouge, according to the city's police department, per multiple reports.

The shooting happened near Southern University's A.W. Mumford Stadium, where homecoming festivities are taking place this weekend.

Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. said Sims was taken to a hospital with an apparent gunshot wound and died.

The school's basketball coach added, "We are all devastated".

Sims' father Wayne Sims was part of the Tigers' Southeastern Conference championship team in 1991 under Coach Dale Brown with Shaquille O'Neal that finished 20-10 overall and 13-5 in the league and reached the NCAA Tournament. We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us.

FYI, Southern University is also located in Baton Rouge. about a 15-minute drive from LSU's main campus. "He had an unbelievable spirit to him and everybody was drawn to him", Wade said from the team's Twitter account. 'There are no words that can express our sorrow for his parents and family. He was such a lovable young man who was full of joy. We are praying for his family, for his parents.

"Maybe the guy I've been most impressed with is Wayde Sims", Wade said on 104.5 FM ESPN's "Off the Bench".
