So what we initially thought was going to be a relatively grounded, street-level Gotham City based adventure (after all, this crossover has to introduce Batwoman, will have characters from Mr. Freeze's origin story, and feature a villain from Arkham Asylum in the mix), the cosmic, Multiversal element makes the presence of Superman and Lois Lane make even more sense.
LaMonica Garrett will be playing Mar Novu, an extraterrestrial being of infinite power who fans of DC Comics know better as the Monitor.More news: 7-Year-Old Girl Stuns Crowd With Moving Rendition Of National Anthem
"It's an interesting title because usually in DC Comics, the title of Elseworlds is usually used to classify stories that are out of DC Continuity, "what if" stories".
Given that the "Elseworlds" brand was the name of an imprint that ran from 1989 until 2010, bringing new twists to familiar DC characters and presenting them in "what if." scenarios, the involvement of the Monitor raises questions about whether the story will take place on either of the two primary Earths in the Arrowverse (Earth-1, where The Flash and Arrow take place, or Supergirl's Earth-38). What might that mean for the surprising involvement of Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl in Gotham City vigilante Batwoman's business...? Crisis on Infinite Earths dealt with the idea that since the matter universe had been split into an infinite multiverse, each of the individual universes was weaker, leaving them more vulnerable to attack by the Anti-Monitor than they otherwise would have been. That second reason may be why the title for the crossover this year is titled "Elseworlds", a nod to a set of classic DC titles that tend to happen outside of the main storyline (like Gotham by Gaslight or Kingdom Come). Be sure to let us know down below in the comments.
