President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee will attempt to convince majority Republicans to confirm him despite Ford's allegation that he assaulted her as a teenager - and as other accusations of sexual misconduct emerge from Kavanaugh's youth.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) absolutely erupted during a press scrum following Christine Blasey Ford's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.

Clune has said that his client wants to speak with the Federal Bureau of Investigation but called the Senate Judiciary Committee "not suited to do this kind of investigation and she's not going to cooperate with this kind of political theater" in an interview with CNN this morning.

The sender of the complaint described an evening apparently involving Kavanaugh, her own daughter and several friends in 1998.

"I've never sexually assaulted anyone, not in high school, not in college, not ever", Kavanaugh said.

"I said that because I believe professor Ford", Baker said.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, the Senator blasted Democrats for not confronting Brett Kavanaugh with Ford's sexual assault claim sooner.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the committee's top Democrat, publicized the increase in calls to the hotline on Wednesday. The next day, I told this Committee that I wanted to testify as soon as possible, under oath, to clear my name. On Thursday, they hired a female prosecutor, Rachel Mitchell, to question Kavanaugh and Ford on their behalf.

While Republicans want to move forward, they are mindful of the fallout if they do not take the accusations seriously.

Testifying less than an hour after one of his accusers, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, concluded her account of a drunken Kavanaugh holding her against her will at a high school party and sexually assaulting her, he began his defiant testimony in an emphatic voice that crackled with anger before giving way to tears. "Senate Republican leaders are aiming to hold a full Senate floor vote on the nomination by early next week, with the hopes that he would be confirmed and sworn in as a justice soon after the high court's new term opens on Monday".

Mark Judge was Kavanaugh's classmate at the all-male Catholic private school, Georgetown Preparatory.

However, he has said he would listen to what Ford has to say at the hearing and, if persuaded, could withdraw the nomination.

Kavanaugh on Wednesday once again rejected the allegations as "last minute smears" that were "false and uncorroborated". She also did not specifically accuse Kavanaugh or Judge of raping her, or physically assaulting her in any way, in her declaration. "My responsibility is to tell the truth". After Ford leaves, Kavanaugh will then deliver his opening statement, not subject to a time limit.
