Wilson and Defense Distributed, the company he helped found, have been the subject of an ongoing court battle over whether the company should be legally allowed to widely disseminate the blueprints for untraceable, 3D-printed weapons online.

Wilson faces a charge of sexual assault, a second degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The alleged victim, who has not been named, said that she had been paid $500 to have sex with the man in a hotel and that she had met the man, who used the name 'Sanjuro, ' through the website SugarDaddyMeet.com, CBS Austin reported.

Wilson flew to Taipei on September 6. Officer added that Wilson may have been tipped off that he was wanted by police prior to leaving for Taiwan after "a friend of the victim" told him that authorities "were investigating him for having sex with a minor". "The AIT will determine how Mr. Wilson shall be handled". Police also learned that he had reached out to a real estate agent by email about renting an apartment in the Zhongzeng District of Taipei. Wilson's arrest comes roughly a day after that rental agency identified him.

Wilson allegedly traveled to the country on a tourist visa in early September, but had recently signed a six-month lease on a "studio" in Taipei, even paying $620 for the first month, according to a local news source.

Since the United States agencies still needed to make a request for deportation, CIB did not place Wilson under arrest on the 20th.

At 6pm local time, Wilson was apprehended at a hotel on Guangzhou Street in the Wanhua District. Taiwan and the U.S.do not have an extradition treaty but cooperate extensively on legal and security matters. The Taiwanese Immigration Departement is now working with the American Institute in Taiwan to secure the necessary documents to deport him back to the United States.

While Taiwan has no formal extradition treaty with the USA, and Wilson was not said to have been doing anything directly criminal in Taiwan, the press there reports that he was arrested without incident because the US had revoked his passport, making his mere presence in Taiwan illegal.

Once Wilson is back on US soil, he will undoubtedly be taken into custody by US Marshals and flown back to Texas.
