Virgil van Dijk drops fitness hint ahead before Chelsea clash

Van Dijk sat out the midweek Carabao Cup tie with the Blues and Klopp explained at his press conference ahead of the league fixture between the sides that the Reds "have to wait" on the defender.

If Van Dijk is not fit, Klopp will have to decide between Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as the Dutchman's replacement in central defence.

Following the 2-1 defeat at Anfield, Klopp said: "The formation was good with the new player (Fabinho) and we could add him on to our matchday squad (on Saturday) because he played really good".

"If Virgil is fit, he plays".

'Virgil is a world-class player, and if you miss a world-class player always it's not cool.

The Reds have made the ideal start to the new campaign, winning six games out of six and now sit pretty atop of the Premier League.

The partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the centre and Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson's continued form from their excellent seasons past year has seen Liverpool keep four clean sheets and concede just two goals so far.
