High school football player dies after injury during game

The stadium in an Atlanta suburb was packed with about 2,200 spectators on Friday night when Pike County High School's football team faced off against Peach County.

A prayer vigil will be held for Thomas at 6 p.m.at the Pike County High School Track.

Thomas was hit hard during the second quarter of the game, but according to his uncle, the teen was not struck down immediately.

Thomas was then rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent two surgeries to reduce brain swelling.

11Alive reached out to the Pike County School Superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan told 11Alive News Sunday morning that they would "circle the wagons for this family".

"Christion is resting. He's fighting", Abercrombie's mother, Staci Abercrombie, said in a statement through the school's sports department on Sunday.

A fundraiser for medical costs and lost income started by Burgess had raised more than $32,000 by Monday afternoon.

"Dylan was an active participant in our school community and a member of the Class of 2020".

BREAKING: We've just received word from family that 16-year-Old Dylan Thomas has passed away. A donation page has been set up on Facebook to assist the family.

"I have never in my life seen this", she wrote. Fellow players, as well as players from Peach County, coaches and supporters all gathered on the field to pray for Thomas before the game was resumed.
