Tiebreak games needed to settle NL Central, NL West races

Two divisional tiebreaker games will be played Monday after the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies all won Sunday, leaving the National League Central and West both deadlocked after 162 games.

Wild-card games on Tuesday (losers of Brewers-Cubs and Rockies-Dodgers games) and Wednesday (Athletics at Yankees) will narrow the field to eight teams, four in each league, as the chase begins in earnest for the World Series crown.

In the second game, at 4 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Colorado Rockies to decide the NL West title. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN.

It's the first time in Major League Baseball history there have been two tiebreaker games on the same day. Nolan Arenado hit two of the Rockies five home runs, and Tyler Anderson pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings.

While Los Angeles did their part in a rout of the Giants, the Rockies held suit against the Washington Nationals.

The Rockies handled business Sunday with a 12-0 win against the Nationals; however, the Dodgers also handled theirs with a monstrous 15-0 win over the Giants.

The Brewers likewise got out to an early lead, getting two in the first inning before rolling to an 11-0 win over the Tigers. Dodgers starter Buehler owns a 2.52 ERA, striking out 85 batters in his 71.1 career innings at home.
