A new report, from health and wellbeing provider BHSF, has highlighted a hidden problem that is only magnified by the stigma surrounding poor mental health.

Mrs. Brandy-Williams explained october 10 is World Mental Health Day and highlighted the need for heightened awareness of mental health issues around the globe.

ThemeThis year, the World Mental Health Day theme is "Young People and Mental Health in a changing world".

Schools will be asked to monitor children's happiness and mental health in a bid to tackle growing levels of anxiety among young people, the Prime Minister will announce today.

The statistics indicate it's an area that deserves attention, with 20% of adolescents experiencing a mental health problem in any given year and around 75% of all mental health disorders appearing by age 24. "We can not expect to save lives if people who need help are being turned away from specialist care", they wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday.

A survey by the National Centre of Social Research found 27% of men and 42% of women in the lowest income bracket experienced mental illness. That is an average of 18 suicides a day - which is why prevention is key.

However, there has been a significant decrease in male suicide in the United Kingdom over the last 30 years.

"The mental health issues among our youth are becoming very serious".

Dr Ramadan AlBlooshi, CEO, Dubai Healthcare City Authority - Regulatory, said, "In line with the Dubai Government's efforts, the DHCC aims to create a culture in which people feel safe and comfortable to talk about their issues, and are guaranteed the best care".

Health spending in England was around £125 billion in 2017/18 and is expected to rise to over £127 billion by 2019/20.

TV presenter Anna Richardson and former Labour spin doctor and author Alastair Campbell feature in the campaign among others who have faced mental health difficulties. Deaths from intentional self-harm occur among males at a rate more than three times greater than that for females.

In 2015 1,660 young people under the age of 35 took their own lives, which was 103 more than in 2014. Spending time with them, increased communication helps.

Drugs are the most common form of mental health treatment.

RedArc warns that in cases where patients are not able to benefit from early intervention, treatment is often delayed whilst waiting for NHS referrals, during which time the condition can escalate, require longer-term treatment, potentially a longer spell of absence from work and a postponement of normal, everyday life. Socio-cultural changes, rapid urbanisation as well as the advancement of technology and virtual means of communication play their role in influencing young people.

At IT company Insentra, ranked second on the Best Places to Work's 2018 list for businesses with under 100 employees, mental wellbeing starts with a single question, at every meeting and within most company interactions, internal and external.

"Aside from this, Gibraltar needs to have enough psychologists and psychiatrists on hand to ensure that they can deliver on their expertise effectively so that service users, both in the community and in the Ocean Views facility, as well as in prison, can have adequate access to therapeutic support".
