In one video viewed by BuzzFeed, Beierle reportedly said he related to Elliot Rodger, the man who wrote a manifesto detailing his hatred of women before embarking on a shooting rampage in California, where he killed six people.

Erskin Wesson, 64, said he was eating dinner with his family at a restaurant below Hot Yoga when they heard the gunshots.

Police have not identified a motive, but are "continuing to follow up the investigative leads for (Beierle) and what made him come to our community and commit this heinous act here", DeLeo said.

Officials said the shooter, who has not been identified, shot six people after entering the hot yoga studio, then pistol-whipped another person before shooting himself. "To lose a faculty member and a student and have others injured in this senseless and violent way is absolutely devastating", Florida State President John Thrasher said in a statement Saturday. "That was me, certainly, as an adolescent".

In a series of videos that were posted to YouTube in 2014, a man who looks like Beierle criticized how black people dress and speak and called women who date black men "whores".

The Tallahassee Democrat newspaper said Van Vessem also worked as chief medical director for Capital Health Plan, which in a statement described her as a "guiding, visionary force" and "one of the most respected, inspiring, and accomplished medical professionals in the state and country".

Court records show a man who opened fire in a Tallahassee yoga studio has two prior arrests for grabbing women. "Kept making excuses. Ah, I could've ripped her head off".

It remains unclear what connection Beierle, who was staying at a local hotel, had to the yoga studio and the victims, DeLeo said.
