PHOENIX-A nurse who was supposed to be looking after an incapacitated woman at a long-term health care facility was charged on January 23, with raping her, weeks after she stunned her caregivers and family by giving birth to a baby boy.
Sutherland, a licensed practicing nurse, who has been working at the facility since 2011, has been booked into Marciopa Jail on one charge of sexual assault and one charge of abusing a vulnerable adult, Mirror reports.
DNA samples were collected from male employees at the facility after the baby's birth.

Thompson said he believes the baby has since been released from the hospital.
Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix obtained Sutherland's full file from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
"I am sickened by what's been disclosed about the rape and subsequent childbirth by a disabled woman at Hacienda HealthCare". In 2011 Sutherland became a licensed practical nurse. Sutherland has since been released on a $500,000 cash only bond.
A police spokesperson said Wednesday that he wasn't sure how much help the victim was able to provide during the investigation and arrest process.

Earlier stories had described the patient as being comatose or in a vegetative state. While she doesn't speak, she has some mobility in her limbs, head, and neck. Together with his wife, Sutherland ran a catering company that specialized in weddings and business events. Sutherland said his mother could not look after her children as a result of the split.
Court records show that Sutherland was divorced once in 2012, and he has another divorce pending. He and his sister formed Sleeplessouljaz, a Christian rap group.
