'You have to balance the players because they play a lot of matches in the next month, with the Europa League and the FA Cup.

"I know this player and he's a very good player", Emery went on.

Barcelona had originally wanted to sell Suarez, but now Goal.com report that Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.

A new contract for Mesut Ozil, making him the highest-paid player in the club's history, and signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 12 months ago for a club-record fee have played a part in the lack of funds as Emery conceded the winter window will be more frugal for Arsenal.

Emery was also asked about rumours Arsenal are interested in Denis Suarez, with the midfielder on the fringes at Barcelona.

Unai Emery has ruled out any permanent signings at Arsenal this month, with only loan deals a possibility.

He told Arsenal's official website: "I think the most important thing for me is hard work and that day-to-day learning".

"We can not sign (players) permanently", he said.

Marca says Suarez has always been linked with the Gunners and has previous with boss Unai Emery.

"We can only sign players later on". But at the moment I don't have news on that.

"But I am happy with every player today, it is really some injuries that didn't help us in the last matches because we struggled with different injuries with the players".

"I know the club is working to find players who can help us, with this condition".

Some players have been taken aback by quite how intense Emery's sessions are since his arrival in the summer.

"We pushed him and he was playing three matches during the week, but not ninety minutes each match".
