Awkwafina joins ‘Jumanji’ sequel cast

And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas.

The studio has set Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, two of the writers behind the first movie, to pen a sequel that would reunite Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.

Mere moments after it was announced that Awkwafina would join the cast of the as-yet-untitled sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, an item from Variety has revealed that veteran actor Danny DeVito has also joined the cast of the next Jumanji film.

The veteran actor has been cast in an undisclosed role in the sequel to 2017's smash hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the Dwayne Johnson-starrer which grossed almost a billion dollars worldwide.

Director Jake Kasdan, who helmed the feature that made $962 million worldwide, is back to direct.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was much better than I expected. "Dwanta Claus loves everyone". Details on her character are being kept secret. It followed a group of four teens transported into the world of Jumanji, where they turn into their adult avatars. The 1995 original focused on a magical board game that brought the jungle to life in the real world. Filming starts in January 2019.

Matt Tolmach is producing the project along with Johnson's Seven Bucks banner and Kasdan.
