Phillies rumors: Expect Manny Machado decision in the next week

Machado and fellow mega free agent Bryce Harper reportedly don't love the idea of playing in Philadelphia, a notoriously ruthless sports town with a roster that could use some improvements to keep pace with the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals in a competitive NL East. The market has slowed to a crawl as the Phillies and other potential suitors center their free agency plans around them.

Moustakas is represented by Scott Boras, who also represents Bryce Harper.

Speaking of Harper, it's always been expected that he'd wait for Machado to sign so that he and Scott Boras could top Machado's deal. On the other hand, they prefer Machado so they likely want to know where he's going first.

Finally, all we can do as fans is await the decision, and hopefully Mr. Levine is correct and it will come sooner rather than later. Reports have suggested that the club will only acquire Harper or Manny Machado this offseason, not both as what was originally reported to be a possibility.

Levine also reported that "momentum is building" for the White Sox to land Machado despite a front-runner not being clear.

Tulowitzki was taken by Colorado with the seventh overall pick in the 2005 amateur draft, became a star with the Rockies, and agreed after the 2010 season to a $157.75 million, 10-year contract that added $132 million over seven seasons. But there have been rumors that the Yankees are only lukewarm on Machado, and may not even top TWO hundred million in an offer. But if Machado is holding out for well over $300 million, then (1) Harper might not be signing for a very long time yet, and (2) for all we know, Harper might be initially asking for something that starts with a four.
