‘Simmba’ continues stronghold over box office, is a certified blockbuster

The film grossed over Rs 20.72 crore on the day 1, making it Ranveer Singh's biggest opening movie to date. According to trade analysts, it is the third highest grossing Bollywood film after Sanju and Padmavaat.

Director Rohit Shetty's Simmba (Simba) has been dominating the Indian box office like a hungry young lion and has maintained its strong hold at the domestic market on its second Monday as well. By the end of 10th day, the film had minted around Rs 190 crore and is now Ranveer Singh's second highest earner. Witnesses superb growth on second Saturday. With Simmba, Rohit has become the first director to deliver eights Rs 100 crore hits. The latter kicked off recently and the filmmaker soon aims to make it big enough to get many filmmakers under his wings, so that they can direct films under the banner. Earning over $683k on Friday and $793k on Saturday, the film has earned $9.884 million (Rs 68.76) in worldwide markets. The growth was 50% from the previous day which is very good considering it was a holiday week in the first week.

Speaking to IANS about the kind of response Simmba has been receiving, Ranveer Singh said: "I had never done this kind of out and out masala entertainer - a kind of movie I had always wanted to do".
