The Accidental Prime Minister has been in the news since a while now due to the reported controversial content. The much-anticipated film based on Sanjaya Baru, the media advisor of Dr Manmohan Singh who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 is expected to garner good digits as the box office. The high court on January 7 had disposed of the writ petition against the trailer but left it open for petitioner to file a public interest litigation (PIL). Others named in the complaint include actors essaying the roles of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president (then national general secretary) Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his deputy Lal Krishna Advani and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.
In the appeal filed in the top court, petitioner Pooja Mahajan has sought stay on exhibition of trailer of the film on YouTube and to suspend the release and exhibition of the movie during pendency of the matter.More news: No signs of pregnancy in comatose woman in April exam
The petition had listed the film's producer and director and claimed that the movie portrayed the former prime minister and several public figures "in a bad light". "It is called The Accidental Prime Minister.but every PM is accidental.so I do not understand the name (of the film)", Banerjee said while inaugurating the state government's annual theatre festival in North 24 Parganas district.

It alleged that the promo of the film showed that the movie has been produced "simply to damage the image" of Manmohan Singh.
