"I want to put the state school back on the basketball map".

Edwards, who now attends Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta, had received a number of offers but cut his list to five schools in November, when he reclassified from 2020 to 2019. "On my visit we watched film together, and he talks with so much energy".

Georgia has landed one of the most coveted 5-star recruits as prized shooting guard Anthony Edwards has officially committed to join the school as part of it's 2019 recruiting class. He says his decision was influenced by "everybody showing love" on his unofficial visit at a Georgia game.

If all three players sign with Georgia as expected, first-year head coach Tom Crean will have signed the No. 1, No. 7 and No. 13 Bulldog recruits in program history. He narrowed down his final commitment decision to Georgia, Florida State, and Kentucky amid an offer sheet that included 16 schools.

The Georgia campus in Athens is near his Atlanta home.

A natural scorer from the two-guard position, Tom Crean would figure to be the ideal fit to shape the talents of a kid like Edwards, who told 247Sports that his favorite players both happen to have been Crean products from years' past: Victor Oladipo and Dwyane Wade.

In his first year of coaching the Bulldogs, Crean has deep ties to Wade, whom he coached while at Marquette from 2001-2003 and instructed Victor Oladipo at IN from 2010-2013.

Edwards reclassified in November from the class of 2020 ahead of the season at Atlanta's Holy Spirit Academy, where he is averaging 26.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals a game and also shooting 38 percent from 3-point range. Edwards says having family so close was "a big factor".
