It appears Michelle Obama received a reality check from her mom following her appearance at the Grammys.

Michelle Obama shared a relatable text exchange with her mom the day after her Grammy appearance Sunday night that may explain how the former first lady stays humble.

Giving Michelle the ultimate reality check after her Grammys debut, Marian brought her daughter back down to earth in a series of text messages.

Obama shared a amusing text exchange between her and her mom, Marian Robinson, on Instagram Tuesday night, writing: "When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity... Did you meet any of the real stars or did you run right after you were done", Marian asks.

She told CBS This Morning in November that her goal in living with the family was to help the couple's young daughters, Sasha and Malia, maintain a sense of normalcy, which included everything from rides to school to "laundry lessons". Obama replied, but her mom countered, "No you did not".

In a few hours the post has had nearly two million likes and over 30,000 comments.

Obama shared the entire text chain on her Instagram account, and wrote that she had also told the audience at her appearance on her book tour stop in Phoenix about it.

Obama took the slip-up in stride, sending three laughing emojis and wrote, "I thought I told you".

Despite the friendly banter between Obama and her mother, the two actually have a very close relationship, as Robinson revealed in her first every televised interview previous year.

'She had a stream of people.

'Well, Mom would ride in the auto with her to make it feel like a regular carpool'.
