OnePlus 5G smartphone prototype will be shown at MWC 2019

The company's CEO has spoken about the 5G revolution and how OnePlus will be launching a 5G-ready handset, which will arrive alongside a non-5G flagship.

OnePlus has collaborated with European telecom carrier EE to be among the first brands to launch a 5G smartphone. OnePlus has now invited the media to experience the company's prototype 5G smartphone at Qualcomm's booth at the event.

The OnePlus 7 could be revealed, partially at least, at MWC 2019 at the end of this month packing the latest 5G connectivity smarts to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Huawei P30 Pro. Reports suggest that at the MWC event OnePlus will just showcase the 5G phone and will officially launch the device later in the year.

OnePlus recently announced its "Connect with the OnePlus Community over 5G" event at the mobile tech show. However, OnePlus' close partnership with Qualcomm means the Snapdragon 855 will be included on the inside along with the Snapdragon X50 modem which will grant 5G capabilities.

The phone will diverge from OnePlus' main family of flagship phones, which includes the OnePlus 6T, and will be one of the first previews many will get to see of a 5G phone.

Based on OnePlus' own announcement, it sounds like MWC attendees will be given the opportunity to test the phone's gaming performance in person if they stop by the company's booth.
