Oakland Raiders cut Jordy Nelson after paying receiver's roster bonus

Interestingly, the Raiders had just paid Nelson a roster bonus of $3 million at the end of last season. Raiders head coach Jon Gruden originally said the receiver would return to the team.

The Oakland Raiders made a weird roster decision with Jordy Nelson.

"Normally, when you hand out a bonus for next year's season, there's a pretty good chance those guys are coming back", Gruden said December 28.

Nelson, who dealt with a knee issue last season, will cost Oakland $1.8 million in dead money.

Cabinda, a 6-foot-1, 243-pound linebacker signed by the club as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft, spent the first six contests of 2018 on the team's practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on October 18. He has 613 catches for 8,587 yards and 72 touchdowns in his career.

Like Nelson, Williams was brought over to the Raiders via free agency, while Brown came to the team in the blockbuster deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Oakland Raiders have re-signed exclusive rights free agent LB Jason Cabinda and signed unrestricted free agent G Chaz Green, the club announced Friday. He spent last season with the team and was active for all 16 contests.
